SABDFL's fault

Yes, I am blaming this one on the great Mark Shuttleworth!

“The $20 million ride will make him the 450th person to enter orbit and by his own admission “the first nerd in space”. He is now making final preparations in a quarantine unit at Baikonur Cosmodrome. Simonyi is set to return on April 20th, together with the current ISS crew.”

This quote is in reference to Microsoft’s Charles Simonyi going to space. My only problem with this is that Mark beat him there years ago. But…Does Mark consider himself a nerd?

It is pretty cool nonetheless that if you have the money, space exploration is possible. I would without a doubt be scared to death on that 8 minute ride up, but I think once getting there it would be amazing. So Mark, do you consider yourself a nerd? If so, make sure you contact Charles and let him know Ubuntu beat um to the punch ๐Ÿ™‚

    Are you Joking?

Mark Shuttleworth embodies all that is nerdness.

Here is for sure the 1st nerd in space. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • haha! Well some people take offense to being called a nerd, so I wanted to tread nicely with that one.

Actually, I think most of the people who went up there can be called “nerds” in some way. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • ya, I guess you are right on that one, so lets call it “the first paying nerd” ๐Ÿ™‚ haha

  • I e-mailed Mark’s PR person some time ago about this and the impression was that he didn’t mind and perhaps wasn’t keen on being classified as a “nerd” anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

I suspect this will go down in M$ history as something they pioneered though – not that I am cynical…

  • Hasn’t Microsoft admitted to pioneering the universe? I know there is the big-bang theory and evolution, but everyone tends to forget about the control-alt-delete theory. Everyone and everything on earth is from mother Microsoft. Ahh, breath in that air, waffle in the aroma of the stickers frying on your memory, or the artic silver cooking on your CPU, ahhh Microsoft.

Whatever Mark is, a Nerd, a Geek, a Visionary or god advisor, he was there FIRST, not Simonyi.

  • Actually Mark was second, but that still beats Simonyi ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Wait…. it’s 2007… if we haven’t been sending nerds into space for the last 46 years… then who the blazes has been handling all that expensive hardware?!!
