Disturbing Ads

Vista ad on gnome-look

Vista ad on kde-look

Didn’t somebody write how to tame Google ads? If so, could you contact the webmaster for these sites and teach them. Nothing like going to a free software site and seeing an ad for Vista.

Maybe it’s supposed to be ironic?

  • Heh, I don’t see those adds, using konqueror with the built-in ad blocker. I remember another linux site having anti-linux ads supporting ms windows. I think it was linux.com.

  • Google’s AdSense has an anti-competitor feature where you can list URLs that shouldn’t be advertized on your site. It’s quite simple.

  • Thank you for your hint.
I have put micosoft on our competitor filter, now.

    Cheers

  • click it!

  • @Frank: Rock on! although you have to admit it was kind of funny ๐Ÿ™‚ So if you see a bunch of gets back to back at about 14:00 UTC, that was me ๐Ÿ™‚

Refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, dangit, I know I saw it…refresh, refresh, refresh ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Look at it this way: MS just paid for the expenses of those sites, with minimal probability of anyone caring about the ad (Users of gnome-look and kde-look having to shop for Vista? How likely is that?).

Doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

  • When I was playing with Iceape the other day (wouldn’t let me install Adblock Plus… I need to look into that) I saw a Windows Server ad on Linux.com. What’s up?

  • I’m with Adriano on this one. Microsoft is helping pay for that site to run. All of nixternal’s refreshes sucked a wee bit of money out of Redmond and pushed it into the Free’o’sphere.

  • @Erigami: hahahaha! If only the refreshes brought them money, they would be billionaires after my stint of refreshes ๐Ÿ™‚

Just leave the ads on the site.

Most Linuxers know that every click on these ads

    – gives money to the website owner which in turn helps Linux
    – costs Microsoft even more money as they pay for every click

    By the way:

I click on every Microsoft ad I see. I just make sure that I empty the browser cache and delete the cookies when ever I start the browser in order to make sure that they really have to pay.

    I enjoy every click ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Tarkan

Yeah, I click on every Microsoft ad too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Brutal :/
