If you are in Chicago, keep an eye out on Craigslist and such. Someone did a smash and grab on a friends car and stole my sweet Zareason laptop. My drive was encrypted so I feel a little safe there, plus there wasn’t anything personal on it. I had some code I wish I would have committed first. Sorry Dave, but I had quite a few fixes to Kubuntu documentation that won’t get done anytime soon. And I had just finished cloning KDE branches too.
Something I learned tonight. Even if you are running into a store really quickly, lock your stuff in your trunk. Also make sure your friend has full coverage insurance on their car, otherwise you are out in the cold on getting it replaced via the insurance. Switching to an old Compaq Presario that can’t run anything fancy, so I am stuck using something like Awesome for the time being
If you know of anyone looking for consulting work, hit me up, I need to make some quick money so I can get a new laptop. Otherwise I am going to go nuts with the uber-slowness and lack of WiFi.
UPDATE: no, I haven’t found my laptop nor gotten a new one yet. I am looking, and boy have these things gotten expensive it seems. I am looking for a laptop with decent specs. It doesn’t have to be the strongest thing ever. The only thing I would really like first is a solid display with a high resolution. Looking at laptops it seems that 1366×768 is common, and I don’t think I would like that coming from a higher resolution. Solid state would be nice but I could live without it. If you find a killer deal, let me know, thanks!
UPDATE 2: nope, still haven’t found it Anyways, I really appreciate those of you who are wanting to donate to help the cause. That means so much to me. I have always had a ‘Contribute or Donate’ button over there on the right, but at a time like this, with everything that is going on in Japan, I think your money could be used to help those who are really in need. I really do appreciate your support, I just feel bad receiving donations when someone needs it way more than I do right now.
